2018 – A year of inspiration, ideas and advocacy

Apart from occasional guest lectures, Sally Gray’s year in 2018 has been one of intense cultural advocacy: energising ideas of creativity and urban vitality; promoting democratic cultural access and expression; and building creative and discerning approaches to leadership for Future Arts Leaders.

TeachingIn partnership with Annie Talve of Project Sisu Sally co-designed and delivered six day-long provocative creativity workshops – titled The Creative Library – to staff and leaders of Victoria’s public library network (May- September 2018). Also with Annie, she co-designed and presented the 2017 and 2018 residential leadership programs  – titled Future Leaders – for the Australia Council for the Arts (May to October 2017: April to October 2018). Also working with Annie, she assisted the Coffs Harbour local council’s cultural leaders, and the region’s creative community, to build a strategy for vibrant and sustainable cultural life in the city of Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales northern coast.

Sallys office2019 will see a return to scholarly life of research and writing. Sally is moving to Melbourne to work on her next book project – a cultural history with the current title ‘Come to the Edge’ – extending the scope of her 2017 book ‘Friends, Fashion and Fabulousness: The Making of an Australian Style’ published in November 2017. Leaving her much loved live-work space in Camperdown, in inner Sydney, she plans to be in Melbourne by January
