Thinking through pink

Thinking through pink logoThinking Through Pink was a major exhibition, covering the four galleries of the ground floor of Wollongong Art Gallery, shown between December 2 2022 and March 5 2023. As curator, Sally Gray wanted to investigate the cultural politics of colour, particularly the ideological layers surrounding the colour pink, characterised as it is as feminine, queer, decorative, frivolous, feminist, frilly and rococo. The objects in the exhibition covered contemporary art and design, Australian modernist art, decorative arts from the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and feminist and queer agitprop posters and art works. Works were drawn from the collection of Wollongong Art Gallery, the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, and eight invited artists. A publication with a six-thousand word scholarly essay accompanied the show.
